Designing with AI: Beyond the Hype
AI is everywhere in design conversations right now. But most of the discussion focuses on AI generating designs, which misses the point entirely.
At Radial, we use AI differently. It's a research accelerator, a brainstorming partner, and a prototyping tool — but the creative decisions always stay with humans.
Where AI actually helps
The biggest impact we've seen is in the research phase. AI can synthesize interview transcripts, identify patterns across user feedback, and surface insights that might take a human researcher days to find.
In prototyping, AI helps us generate copy variations, test different content strategies, and quickly mock up data-heavy interfaces with realistic content.
Where it doesn't
AI still can't replace the nuanced understanding that comes from sitting with a user and watching them struggle with an interface. It can't feel the emotional weight of a design decision or understand the cultural context that makes one solution better than another.
The best results come from treating AI as a capable junior team member — fast, tireless, and good at execution, but needing human direction and judgment.
